This Irish Contract No. 4 Mk. 2 is a bolt-action Lee-Enfield rifle manufactured by the Royal Ordnance Factory in Fazakerley (ROF Fazakerley) in the mid-1950s. 50,000-unit order for the Irish Army. Authentic Irish Contract rifles fall strictly within the serial number block from PF309348 to PF359347. Produced at ROF Fazakerley (denoted by an "F" code) primarily between 1953 and 1955. Features black finished metal, two piece straight gripped stock with full length handguards, brass buttplate, 25" barrel, bayonet lug, protected blade front sight, rear peep sight with flip-up elevation ladder, sling swivels, detachable 10 round magazine, manual safety. Receiver dated 11/53. Serial numbers match on receiver, bolt, magazine, Comes with a No. 9 MK I bayonet, scabbard, bayonet & scabbard serial numbers are matched to the rifle, dated 53. Green web frog dated 53. Correct green web sling attached, correct green canvass breech cover, marker marked, dated 1951. The action is smooth, bore is excellent/bright, strong rifling, finish is about 94% with some handling wear, friction wear on the bolt. Imported by CAI, feint marking on the barrel. Also included is British P-37 web gear from the period including waist belt, and two ammo pouches dated 1953, suspenders dated in the 1940's, small pack dated 1954 and water bottle with carrier dated 1953, all maker marked and in excellent condition. A very nice matching dates set.
