This is a factory engraved, two-trigger, tip-up deluxe sporting rifle. Manufactured between 1872-88. 28" round octagonal barrel with manual ejector on the right side. Toggle link on the left side. Adjustable u-notch rear sight, and globe front sight which has the globe section has been removed. Tang grooved for peep sight. Floral and scroll engraving on main components besides the barrel which is stamped " Frank Wesson Worcester Mass. Pat'd Oct 25 1859 & Nov 11 1862" in two lines. Adjustable striker on the hammer for use with either rimfire or centerfire bullets and corresponding duel firing pins in the frame. Striker is missing a small screw, easily replaced. Hammer marked "Pat. Apr. 9. 1872". Front trigger releases the barrel at half cock. The rifles were numbers in each series. Serial number 6 is found on the triggerguard, inside of the buttplate and on the stock under the buttplate. Finished walnut stock has a crescent buttplate and a deluxe spliced semi-pistol grip with checkered wrist. The bore is very good/bright with strong rifling. The blued barrel has turned a smooth brown patina. There a some small dents on the barrel where it meets the frame, nothing serious. Action is crisp/tight and barrel locks up tight. The nickel finish on the frame and buttplate is about 30-40% with the turning a brown patina. Stock is very good with crisp checkering. A few minor scratches/dings. A scarce rifle that could be easily upgraded with a peep sight. NRA Condition-Fine as Antique. Antique Firearm.
