French Maubeuge M1763 Pistol. .70 cal NVSN
French Military flintlock pistol converted to percussion. 16" overall. Approx. .70 Cal. Brass furniture, lock plate marked "Maubeuge". Added percussion hammer, and bolster. tang marked "M1763". Brass escutcheon marked with what appears to be "I.N". 9 1/4" barrel with bead/notch sights. The lock plate is marked with a small "C S" stamp the the C partially obscured by Escutcheon screw coming through the plate. It does appear a wood panel has nailed to the left side of the stock , probably during the conversion. , which would explain this. These pistols were used in the American Revolution, and the Civil War after conversion. Brass has a nice patina, two cock action works well, the barrel, lock and hammer are in the white, with scattered pin-prick pitting, Missing ramrod, smooth bore is good/dark. The wood is sound with a couple of small cracks, and some worm holes on the right side. There appears to be a kind of blonde wood filler applied to the right wrist, and grip. NRA Condition-Good as Antique Firearm.
