Large bore French Cavalry pistol manufactured at the imperial arsenal in the town of Mutzig Converted from flintlock to percussion. Lock plate marked "Mle Rte de Mutzig". Tang marked Mle 1822 t bis". Left side of barrel marked "Cde 17.6" (17.6mm-.69 Cal.)The number "909" is stamped on the left barrel, and in the stock. The number 1300 is stamped on the bottom brass butt. French proofs are present. 7 3/4" octagon to round barrel, brass furniture, cup top steel ramrod in place. Lanyard ring. Brass escutcheon. Action is crisp/tight. Wood is very good with minor dings/scratches. Smooth bore is dark/dusty. Brass has a nice aged patina. Metal has turned a gray/brown patina with scattered pitting/rust. Documented use of these pistols by the South during the Civil War. NRA Condition-Good as Antique firearm
