French Percussion Target Pistol, attributed to Gosset of Paris, NVSN, approx. .50 cal., 8-3/4'' barrel, brown finish; hammer, lock plate, trigger plate and butt cap nicely engraved in a fan and floral motif; checkered European walnut stock, with no visible markings. Silver shield inlaid into the wrist is unadorned. Rear sight is integral to the breech extension, front sight is a blade inset and pinned at the muzzle. Ca. mid-19th Century. Condition is good. The originally bright barrel and case colored lock and triggerguard have aged to an even grey/brown. Close inspection reveals the barrel to have a beautiful small rose Damascus pattern. Bore is rifled with approx. 100 lands and grooves. Hammer will not stay cocked; single set trigger appears to function well. The _-length stock is nicely carved with a shell motif at the end cap with a finely checkered grip. Stock has a well repaired break through the wrist. Stock butt appears to be a horn spacer with steel cap. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)
