G. Goulcher Half-Stock Percussion Kentucky Rifle, #NVSN, approx. .32 cal., 41" octagon barrel, brown finish. Smooth hardwood half-stock with full-length wooden ramrod, brass furniture, exaggerated trigger guard with finger rests, flat stylized cheekpiece on the left side, Schuetzen style buttplate, with pewter nose cap. Dovetailed German silver knife blade front sight, fixed deep "U"-notch rear sight, and double set-triggers. Lock with lightly engraved game scene, scroll designs, and "G. GOULCHER"; no other markings noted. Mfg'd circa 1840-1850's. Rifle is in good condition, barrel is brown, showing scattered light scrapes, mars, and some old, dried oil. Lock displays silvered color case hardened finish, with some mild oxidation. Hammer appears to be an old replacement, with the nipple intact and undamaged. Stock is in very good condition, with scattered impressions and marks consistent with age and use. Action functions and holds at full-cock. Bore is dark. George Goulcher was a third generation gunsmith from New York. The Goulcher's were known for their locks, which were commercially available. Est.: $600-$800. (Antique)
