SPORTING BOLT ACTION RIFLE BUILT OFF OF 98 MAUSER ACTION. Cal. 8x57 (8mm Mauser). S# 112560 (underside of receiver). Numbers appearing on most small parts appear to match S#. Bbl. 22" w/ matted rib, blade front & 2 leaf V notch rear sight. Bbl. & receiver have "BU" & Imperial Eagle proofs. 98 Mauser action w/ claw style mounts to tops of receiver. Receiver ring has partially obscured maker's markings: left side" "G. L. RASCH / HOFBUCKSENMACHER" & right side "BRAUNSCHWEIG" both markings in banners. Receiver edges have vine type borders. Dbl. set triggers. Hinged floorplate w/ lever release. Mauser 98 style bolt assembly w/ checkered butterknife handle, checkered safety tab w/ gold "SICHER" & top of cocking piece checkered w/ black paint. Schnabel tipped rnd. knob pistol grip walnut stock w/ wedge fastening, segmented checkered, sling swivels & decorative checkered steel buttplate. Toeline has ornate 5 shell hinged trap w/ oval engraved "IN DANIKGARER / ERIN NERUAD. 25 SEPTEMBER 1906 / HERM RIMPAU / S L / AUG HAMTE". Right side of buttstock has crown "KM over "D 1737" marking. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: wedge & bbl. wedge lug. CONDITION: wedge lug detached from bbl. Bbl. & receiver has fair faded blue blending w/ brown patina showing numerous punch marks around rear sight & receiver along w/ solder residue at front sight. Cocking piece has black paint in protected areas. Sanded & refinished wood has worn checkering at wrist, cracks, gouges, repaired chip at toe, & 2 plug type repairs around heel. Trap plate has replacement screws. Fair bore w/ darkness in the grooves & noticeable rifling. (22-3515/MD). CURIO. $300-500.
