BLOCK ROOK RIFLE. Cal. 22 Hornet. S# 225. Gibbs produced fewer than 1000 Farquahrson actions in all sizes. The smallest size Rook action has always been scarce & desirable, as many were used in producing custom rifles. This rifle originally in .360 has been lined to 22 Hornet & has 26" oct. bbl. fitted w/ 1 standing / 1 folding leaf rear & silver bead front sights. Top flat is engraved "GIBBS, BRISTOL". Action w/ side safety is marked "FARQUAHRSON'S" "PATENT" "225" (patent use no.) on right side & engraved "George Gibbs" "Bristol" on left. Nicely marbled & figured European walnut horn capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14 3/8" over ribbed horn buttplate. Point pattern checkering is at grip & vacant silver oval is on bottom. Matching forend has horn tip & screws to bbl. CONDITION: bbl. retains an old reblue over some pitting on sides near forend. Action is mostly gray w/ scattered pinprick pitting overall, some deeper pitting is on operating lever & at grip. Stocks have most of an old oil finish w/ sharp edges rounded, checkering recut. Original horn grip cap is fine. Buttplate has some insect damage. Shiny bore w/ sharp rifling has 1 or 2 sm. pits at breech end. Action is smooth. Breech block is a bit loose. (01-17178/MGM45). ANTIQUE. $3,000-4,000.
