LOADING RIFLE. Cal. 22 Win. Auto. S# 62216. The factory engraving on this rifle is the work of Alden George Ulrich, son of Conrad Ulrich. George Ulrich engraved at Winchester until his sudden death in 1949. Receiver scenes feature engraving of rabbits on the right side and squirrels on the left. The scenes are surrounded by Ulrich's typical impressed borders with scroll highlights that continue the upper and lower surfaces. Standard full blue finish. The 20" bbl is fitted with No. 40A rear and bead front sights. The tubular magazine inserts thru the crescent steel buttplate and loads on the right side The forend and deluxe pistol grip stock of fancy black walnut feature style "H" hand checkering and a small hard rubber grip cap. The model 1903 was Winchester's first self loading rifle .Due to lack of standardization of rimfire ammo it was necessary to develop a specialized cartridge of bullet weight and velocity to match the action's regulation. 126,000 were produced from 1903-1936, The serial number indicates that this exceptional rifle was mfg. in 1912. CONDITION: All original rifle retaining over 95% blue blue showing slight edge wear. The breech block has 75% fire blue. Very good original wood finish has age & handling related scratches and marks.
