SWORD. Import foot sword marked “Horstmann” & “Philadelphia” on either quillon of 29" blade. Brass mounted leather scabbard. Top mount inscribed in block lettering “CAPT. C. W. STYLES / 26TH GEO INF” George Wentworth Styles (1825-1897) Best known as founder of the Atlanta Constitution newspaper after the Civil War. He was captain in 26th GA for one year. Inscription is not in style used during war. Sword is Civil War era and it is possible that inscription is commemorative, but no provenance, sword is estimated at the value of the sword itself.
