UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: a handwritten letter dated October 24th of 1986 from U.S.M.C. Hospital Corpsman Larry Nyland that mentions that the knife is in the same condition as it was when he brought it home from Vietnam, that it was difficult to keep the knife from rusting, and that he "worked off a lot of nervous tension sharpening the knife". The letter goes on to list several items that Larry Nyland was interested in trading his knife for. Larry Nyland's U.S.M.C. business card is taped to the letter, and is accompanied by a 3rd Recon Batallion "SWIFT" "SILENT" "DEADLY" patch and original Gerber Mark II combat knife pamphlet. CONDITION: blade shows pitting and some scattered pinprick spots of darker discoloration overall. Handle shows losses to its finish and retains a gray patina. Leather scabbard shows some age related cracking and crazing overall, with some scattered marks from handling and storage. Brass hanger retains a pleasant mellow patina. An already desirable Gerber Mk2 fighting knife, with a letter from the Veteran who carried it in Vietnam. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18477/MLW). $500-700
