“GETTYSBURG” RELIC JENKS CARBINE.

Cal. 54. NSN. Classic Mexican War era “mule ear” percussion carbine, standard configuration, brass mounted, 24.5” barrel, 3 line Ames maker, and Navy proofs, and “1842” at breech. 3” torn brown ink tag attached to stock from old museum display which is only partially read, “YSBURG” of “GETTYSBURG” is read, “61st NY VOLS” and “1866” easily read. Picked up in 1866 and it looks it, well weathered stock, deeply patinaed brass, heavy iron patina, but markings all discernible. Buttplate has “CSA 1863 CO. F” punch dot inscribed. CONDITION: fair, good for battlefield pick up, complete with exception of large chip out of stock above lock. Breech frozen, latch broken off, hammer flops probably from broken mainspring. Tag is scuffed and difficult to read. (01-21631/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
