GODDESS DIANA OF THE HUNT ENGRAVED WINCHESTER

MODEL 42 PUMP SHOTGUN. Cal. 410 3". S# 18727. Small gauge shotguns are favored of many shooters and collectors, and that is especially true of Model 42's like this one engraved by CA Superior Court Judge Cecil J. Mills. Judge Mills studied engraving at Trinidad Junior College in CO and under famed FN engraver Angelo Bee. Receiver sides have vignettes of Diana, Goddess of the Hunt, in multicolor gold and silver inlays. Background of woodland scenes have contrasting French gray finish. The vignettes are surrounded by full coverage foliate scroll engraving w/ punch dot backgrounds that extend to receiver top, triggerguard, and lower areas as well as the receiver extension. Top of receiver has a 3rd Diana, Goddess of the Hunter, and her dog in stunning gold and silver. A gold and silver chukar adorns the bow. Straight line borders and S# are also inlaid in gold. Engraver signature "C J MILLS" is found along lower edge of the right vignette. Machine jeweled bolt carrier and gold plated trigger. Barrel is 28" with an aftermarket round post vent rib with hand matted top and duck bill extension. Muzzle has a single gold border with scroll highlights, "FULL" choke marking is inlaid in gold. White target front sight w/ white mid bead. Beaver tail forearm and uncapped pistol grip stock are custom made of exhibition quality fig shell walnut having vivid chestnut and dark chocolate tones. Forearm and wrist of stock have ornate borderless 22 LPI fleur de lis hand checkering. LOP:14 3/8" over Winchester hard rubber buttplate. Weight: 6 lbs. 8 oz. Mfg. 1936. CONDITION: near excellent with custom refinish and new wood. Sound mechanics. Very good bright bore. (22-2301/DS). CURIO. $6,000-10,000.
