GUN. Cal. 12 Ga., 2 3/4". S# S70969. Bbl. 32". Factory records indicate about 1,800 guns were made in this grade. This specimen has 32" bbl. fitted w/ raised matted ventilated rib holding 2 white beads. Left side of bbl. is marked "L.C. SMITH Specialty TRAP". Bottom of bbl. is stamped w/ "S" & S# along w/ Nitro Steel trademark. Boxlock type action w/ usual rotary bolt is engraved in Specialty style w/ 80% coverage lg. open shaded scroll surrounding scenes on sides, left side portraying a setter in marsh searching for downed game; right side portrays a single walking quail in tall grass. Blued trigger guard w/ S# on tang has bow semi relief factory engraved "J. J. Ryan". Pistol grip buttstock of slightly crotch figured American walnut measures 14" over Jostam open sided pad. Side panels are checkered & point pattern checkering wraps over top of grip. Matching long schnabled ejector forend has J-spring release w/ knurled roll secondary catch in guitar shaped escutcheon. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: .727". Restriction: .034" (FULL). Min. Wall Thickness: .035". STOCK: DAH: 2 3/8". DAC: 1 5/8". LOP: 14" CAST: neutral. WEIGHT: 8 lb. 10 oz. CONDITION: very good to fine, bbl. retaining about 70-80% original blue w/ sharp edge wear & scattered light pitting. Action retains 30-40% original case hardening color, the balance turning bright silver & gray. There is some freckling noted on bottom. Stocks retain what appears to be their original oil finish over some light marks & some heavier dings. Checkering is lightly worn. Bore is shiny w/ many light striations at breech end without any noted dents. Action is tight. Ejector is in time. (22-2137/MGM). CURIO. $1,500-2,000.
