SIMSON & COMPANY. Cal. 20 Ga. S# 225499. Similar to the JP Sauer Model 60 Deluxe, this gun has 27 1/2" shoelump bbls. w/ raised matted rib marked "SIMSON SUHL (THURINGEN)" in milled out portion. Steel type marked on tops of bbls. Bbl. flats stamped w/ 1963 East German nitro proofs for 2 3/4" chambers. Coin finished dbl. arch backed boxlock action features automatic safety, cross bolt 3rd fastener, side clips, intercepting safety sears, pin type cocking indicators on sides & dbl. triggers. Action engraved w/ punched in scroll borders & some cut scroll surrounding game scenes w/ a pair of ducks on left side & pigeons on right. A cock pheasant is on trigger plate. Top lever & trigger guard are blued & have matching scroll engraving. Lightly figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 3/8" over hard rubber buttplate w/ Simson mountain logo. Point pattern checkering is at grip & a vacant silver oval is on toeline. Matching schnabeled splinter ejector forend has Deeley release. MEASUREMENTS: bbls: bore diameter: right: .622", left: .621". Restriction: right: .007" (IC), left: .013" (MOD). Minimum wall thickness: right: .038", left: .040". STOCK: DAH: 2 3/4". DAC: 1 9/16". LOP: 14 3/8". CAST: neutral. WEIGHT: 6 lb. 8 oz. CONDITION: very fine, bbl. retaining over 95% original blue. Action w/ nearly all of its original coin finish has some darkening on bottom. Trigger guard & top lever are lightly silvered on sharp edges. Stocks retain nearly all of their original oil finish w/ some light marks. Checkering w/ very light wear. Bright shiny bores. Mechanically good. Action feels a bit loose horizontally. Measuring of front lump & its mortise reveals a .009" difference accounting for this. No vertical play is felt.
