GOOD MODEL 1905 MANNLICHER SCHOENAUER W/ EXCELLENT
BORE. Cal. 9x56 MS. S# 3432. Bbl. 18". The 9mm carbine was fairly popular for medium game such as moose & black bear. Examples w/ excellent bores are relatively scarce. This rifle is of standard configuration w/ 18" bbl., pistol grip stock & dbl. set triggers. Usual tapered rnd. bbl. engraved "MADE IN AUSTRIA" on top. This is absent from receiver ring, as is normally found in early rifles. Rear sight has been removed & slot filled w/ a blank. Normal German silver front bead is in short matted ramp. Action has all correct factory markings & a Lyman 36 sight has been fitted to bolt stop. Stock of nicely figured European walnut extends to muzzle w/ usual schnabled steel cap, bail type sling attachment, right hand cheekpiece, & serrated steel buttplate w/ trap (space under trap for cleaning equipment, equipment not present). Stock also features point pattern checkering w/ broad mullered borders at grip & usual pattern borderless checkering at forend. CONDITION: very good to fine as partially refinished. bbl. & top part of action w/ over 80% of what appears to be original blue, thinning somewhat overall & silvered on sharp edges. Floorplate & trigger guard have been reblued & retain nearly all of that blue. It appears stock has had a few coats of oil rubbed in over the ages & has a few subsequent marks, most notably a 2 1/2" long scratch on right side of butt. Bore is very fine to excellent, shiny w/ strong rifling throughout, perhaps also w/ a bit of frosting in grooves toward muzzle. Action is smooth, mechanically excellent. (20-1680/MGM15). CURIO. $800-1,800.
