HOLSTER PISTOLS BY DEBOUBERT OF PARIS. Cal. 1" at muzzles. NSN. The 8" twist steel barrels with octagonal breech sections transition to round and have ring turned flared cannon muzzles. Tops of barrels are gold inlaid "DEBOUBERT" "BREVETE A PARIS" (working 1812-30 who held the first French patent for percussion cap). Case hardened patent breeches are well filed and gold inlaid "1" & "2" which matches numbers in sighting notches of breech irons. Front spring locks with broad flat faced percussion hammers are fitted with back sliding safetys. Maker's name and address are in gold on each lockplate. Pistols are stocked in fancy figured elm with flared grips and are iron mounted. Trigger plates have vase type finials and trigger guards have plain bows. Grip caps are of flute carved ebony and have steel knobs. Sideplates are wing shaped. Locks and other iron parts are very finely engraved with game scenes and acanthus within geometric and feather borders. Birds are on lockplates and trigger guard bows. Sideplates are engraved with stylized swans. Stocks have square checkering at grips, are stocked within 2 " of muzzles and are attached to barrels with captive sidebolts through oval silver escutcheons. Baleen ramrods with brass tips have steel tails fitted with cleaning impliments. CONDITION: very good to fine, original as found. Barrels retaining over 80% original brown with twist pattern strong. Locks and patent breeches retain most of their case hardening color with some scattered splotches. Other mounts show some cleaning and are mostly pewter gray. Stocks retain most of what appears to be original oil finish, with a large number of knocks and dings. Bores are mostly shiny with some discoloration toward muzzles. Locks are fine. Safetys work. Pistol #1 has a crack on left side running from rear of barrel down to trigger plate. (01-22354/MGM). ANTIQUE. $6,000-10,000.
