FRAME. Cal. 12 Ga. S# 175852 (circa 1915). Bbl. 27 3/4". Damascus bbls. appear to be factory original as there is still an unaltered .060 stop line of matting at muzzle. Top of rib marked w/ “MERRIDAN CONN.” address & “DAMASCUS STEEL”. All correct markings are on bbl. flats & lumps. Rear lump marked for 1 1/2 frame. Parker boxlock type action features automatic safety & nickel plated dbl. triggers. Action engraved in usual “D” style w/ 80% coverage, varying size scroll w/ in line & geometric borders surrounding nicely detailed dog scenes on sides; pointing pointer on left & pointing setter on right. Usual group of 4 pheasant are on trigger plate. Scroll engraved trigger guard has S# on tang. Attractively fiddle figured & well marbled European walnut Parker capped pistol grip buttstock measures 13 5/8" over skeleton steel buttplate. Stock features lozenge shaped drop points, point pattern checkering at grip & a vacant silver oval on toeline. Matching splinter forend has nicely filed steel tip & usual Parker release. MEASUREMENTS: Bore Diameter: Left .731, Right .730. Bore Restriction: Left .036 (full), Right .023 (mod). Wall Thickness: Left .030, Right .030. DAH: 3". DAC: 13/16". Cast: 0. WEIGHT: 6 lbs, 12oz. CONDITION: good to fine, essentially “as found”. Bbls. retaining approx. 80% original black & white damascus finish w/ scattered freckling & some minor marks. Action retains traces of case hardening color where protected & is mostly attractive pewter gray. Engraving sharp & clear. Stocks retain most of their original finish w/ a myriad of minor marks & dings associated w/ a lifetime in the field. Checkering lightly worn & has not been recut. Screw slots show moderate use, especially those on trigger plate. Bores are fine w/ some occasional pitting in right bbl. There are 2 or 3 dents toward muzzles that need some attention & 1 or 2 minor pings. Action is tight. Mechanically good. (21-1691/MGM). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
