SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. 2 3/4". S# 85646. The 28" dovetailed steel bbls. fitted with slightly raised matted game rib are engraved "Auguste Francotte" "Brevete a Liege" on tops. There are 1 1/4" triangles of scroll at breech ends. Bbl. flats are stamped with Belgian Nitro proofs with an underlined "s" proof date (1980)?. Crowned "AF" marks are present. Serial number is on bottom of right bbl. which corresponds to Francotte medium quality guns of 1927. Case hardened top lever action fitted with backspring rebounding locks having serpentine hammers features crossbolt third fastener, sideclips, and double triggers. Action and locks are engraved with about 80% coverage well cut open shaded scroll within line borders. No maker's information is on action or locks. Blued trigger guard with scroll on bow has serial number on tang. Straight grip buttstock of attractively fiddle figured European walnut measures 14 3/8" over ribbed horn buttplate. Closely spaced point pattern checkering is at grip and a sling loop on toeline matches that screwed to bottom rib of bbl. Matching splinter forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .727", L .727". Restriction: R .018" (MOD), L .026" (MOD). Min. Wall Thickness: R .028", L .032". STOCK: DAH: 2 9/16". DAC: 1 7/16". LOP: 14 3/8". CAST: approx. 1/4" off. WEIGHT: 6 lb. 10 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gun is housed in Spanish type leather case with plated riveted on corners. Top is embossed "B.F.S". Interior is lined in green felt. One of two covered compartments contains a key. CONDITION: fine, bbls. retaining nearly all of a good quality reblack. Action and locks show about half their original case hardening color, which is quite strong where protected. Trigger guard has been reblued, engraving has been considerably softened. Stocks retain most of what appears to be their original oil finish with a scattering of light marks. Bores are bright and shiny. and without noted problems. Chambers appear to be lengthened. Action is very tight. Bbls. are on face. Locks are good. Case leather shows some discoloration and rubs. Interior cloth is good with some soiling. (22-4484/MGM). CURIO. $2,500-4,000.
