FLINTLOCK RIFLE. Cal. 38. NSN. The browned 45 1/2" octagon bbl. is unswamped & fitted w/ U-notch rear & sm. brass front sights. Top flat is engraved "19 GMH 55" (G Howe). Top left flat is stamped "W. M. L. for G. H." (William Large). Manton style Siler (?) lock has Serpentine cock, semi waterproof pan, bridled roller frizzen & feather spring w/ bulbous finial. Stock of nicely figured curly maple extends to muzzle w/ 2" brass cap & is pinned to bbl. (pins through ovate silver escutcheons). Stock features left hand cheekpiece & fancy patchbox w/ tension release on left side. Trigger guard has spur at rear forming grip. & lg. sideplate has nicely shaped finial. There is a vacant silver oval at top of grip. Striped hickory ramrod mounts through 3 beaded pipes & matching thimble. CONDITION: very fine. Iron parts retaining nearly all of their original brown finish. Stock retains nearly all of its dark stain. Brass is nicely toned. Bore is very fine, sharp & shiny w/ perhaps 1 or 2 very minor pits toward muzzle. Lock shows little use. (01-20990/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,250-2,500.
