BRAUN & MUNZEL WITH SCOPE. Cal. 9x57 Mauser, Groove Diameter: .358. S# 5112AH. Most likely built after World War I on a military action, this rifle has 23" half rnd. half octagon ribbed barrel fitted with 1 standing 1 folding leaf U-notch rear and silver bead front sights. Maker’s name is toward right side of rib and address “Coblenz” is toward left. Standard length Model 98 action is fitted with claw scope bases. Bolt handle has been altered to butterknife type. Bottom metal has added lever to remove floorplate. Trigger guard bow has been nicely shaped and double set triggers are fitted. Action and bottom metal are lightly engraved with sprays of scroll and line borders. Horn capped pistol grip stock of lightly figured European walnut measures 13 7/8" over basketweave horn buttplate and features small shadowline right hand cheekpiece, schnabeled forend tip, reinforcing side panels, and point pattern checkering at grip. Sling loops are installed on toeline and bottom of bbl. Action is mounted with Hensoldt Dialytan 4x scope with 3 post reticle in claw mounts, rear with windage. CONDITION: very good to fine, metal parts retaining over 70% original blue. Stock with nearly all of its original oil finish has a good scattering of minor dents and marks. Checkering is lightly worn. Bore is bright and shiny but shows some erosion at throat. Mechanically good. Scope is good to fine, with most of its exterior blue, which has browned considerable on ocular bell. Optically good, fairly clear. (22-5421/MGM). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
