GAMEGUN BY J. J. SARASQUETA WITH EXTRA BARRELS AND CASE. Cal. 12 ga. 2 3/4". S# 84820. Both sets of 28" demi-bloc bbls. are fitted with flat matted solid ribs, rear portions are gold inlaid "1" and "2". Top bbls. are engraved "Viuda e Hijos De J. J. Sarasqueta. Eibar" and with steel information either side of ribs. Both sets are stamped with 1951 Spanish Nitro proofs for 2 3/4" chambers. Woodward type low profile sidelock O/U action features automatic safety and double triggers (front articulated). Action is engraved with near full coverage medium and small scroll within line borders. A hunting scene of nimrod with shotgun in boat floating in duck marsh is on bottom. Fences are semi relief scroll engraved. Lockplates depict dog and bird scenes with pair of pointers pointing snipe with trees in background on left plate and a group of five pheasant, 3 standing, 1 feeding, and one flying on right. Trigger guard bow depicts a pointer. Straight grip buttstock of well marbled and lightly stump figured European walnut measures 14" over red "Silver" type pad. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Gold oval on toeline is engraved "RJ". Slim field type forend with Deeley type release serves both bbl. sets. MEASUREMENTS: BBL. SET "1": BBLS: Bore Diameter: T .725", B .723". Restriction: T .040", B .025" (MOD). Min. Wall Thickness: T .028", B .027". BBL. SET "2": BBLS: Bore Diameter: T .721", B .721". Restriction: T .021 (MOD), B .016" (MOD). Min. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gun and extra bbls. are housed in what appears to be their original leather case with plated steel corners lined in burgundy cloth. Case has J. J. Sarasqueta label in lid, bottom compartmant is semi French fitted for action. Case contains a pair of snapcaps and key in small covered compartment. CONDITION: fine, bbls. retaining over 80% of what appears to be original blue. Action and lockpaltes retain most of their muted almost gray case hardening color. Stocks retain nearly all of what appears to be their original hand rubbed oil finish, checkering with light wear. Pad is relatively new. Bores are bright and shiny. Mechanically good. Case is fair to good, label missing from exterior. Straps and handle are good. Interior cloth shows some light soiling and rubs. (22-4475/MGM). MODERN. $3,500-5,000.
