HEAVY GAME OR PIGEON GUN BY A. FORGERON WITH EXTRA SET OF BARRELS AND CASE. Cal. 12 Ga. 2 3/4". S# 39035. Alphonse Forgeron was a well regarded gunmaker in Liege up until his death in 1932. This gun is made with 30" dovetailed bbls. with slightly raised concave matted rib. Maker's name and address are engraved on tops. Bbl. flats are stamped with 1928 Belgian nitro proofs. Bottoms of bbls. are stamped with "NICKEL TOLEDO STEEL" information. Second set of chopper lump bbls. are made in Spain and are serial numbered to this gun. They are fitted with an early style of interchangeable choke tubes with raised area at muzzles. Matted rib is slightly raised with maker's name and address on tops of bbls. Bbl. flats are stamped with Spanish nitro proofs. Coin finished sidelock action is stocked to the fences and features nonautomatic safety, hidden third fastener, bushed strikers, slight reinforce to action, raised rib tumbler end cocking indicators, H & H style hand detachable locks, and double triggers (front articulated). Action is engraved with full coverage large scrolling acanthus with floral highlights in a background of small scroll. Geometric borders are on lockplates. Newly made round knob pistol grip buttstock of lightly figured and marbled European walnut, measures 14 7/8" over Silver type pad. Drop points are fluted, and closely spaced point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: ORIGINAL BBLS.: Bore Diameter: R: .724", L: .724". Restrictions: R: .032" (FULL), L: .039" (EXTRA FULL). Minimum Wall Thickness: R: .031", L: .027". Spanish bbls. 29 1/4") Bore Diameter: R: .727", L: .726". Restrictions: Choke Tubes. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gun and extra bbls. are housed in brown oak and leather case with brass corners. Interior is lined in burgundy cloth, and a reproduction Forgeron label is in lid. CONDITION: very good as refinished. Bbls. retaining nearly all of a best reblack. Action is cleaned to coin finish. Newer buttstock with nearly all original oil finish. What appears to be original forend is refinished to match, checking recut. Bores are bright and shiny with no noted problems. Action is tight. Bbls. are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Vintage case has been restored with new leather and interior, both of which are very fine. (22-1116/MGM). CURIO. $4,000-8,000.
