PENNSYLVANIA FLINTLOCK MUSKET BY PETER BRONG. Cal. 70. NSN. Peter Brong of Lancaster, Pennsylvania had a contract to produce 500 of these muskets. His actual production is not known. This fine example has 44 1/8" bbl. w/ deep liberty cap over "P" oval proof at breech end (pre 1799). Left side is also stamped "CB No 334". The remnants of a "C" is stamped at very rear of bbl. near breech plug tang. Lock w/ flat arched beveled plate. Has inset faceted pan & bridled friction frizzen w/ spear finial at feather spring. Flat faced chamfered cock is reinforced. Tail of lockplate is stamped "CP" & has nicely filed teat finial. Inside of lock is stamped w/ the initials "PB" (Peter Brong). Stock of Charleville style has very short, deeply fluted & chamfered comb, left side of which is branded "R.t No. 116 Co. 4". All furniture is iron & unmarked. The initials "J.F." are carved on left panel behind side plate. CONDITION: good to very good. Metal parts w/ even brown to black patina & a good coating of grime. Stock is in good condition retaining most of its original surfaces w/ fairly lg. repair on right side between lockplate & bbl. tang. Wood along bbl. channel is quite good. Musket is still in original flint & lock is operable. Touch hole somewhat enlarged. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti. (01-19067/MGM). ANTIQUE. $3,000-4,000.
