TELESCOPIC SIGHT AND SWISS BUTT. Cal. 38-55. S# 8782. Bbl. 30" half round, half octagon has Remington markings on top flat and caliber on bottom in front of forend. Serial number is on bottom under forend along with a second caliber stamping and "48077". Bbl. is mounted with unmarked long tube telescopic sight with crosshair reticle in adjustable mounts. Case hardened dropping block action is marked "HEPBURN'S PAT" "OCT 7TH 1878" on left side. Action is fitted with double set triggers and has serial number on bottom tang. Round knob pistol grip buttstock of lightly figured American walnut has nickel plated Swiss style offhand buttplate. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching uncheckered forend has nickel plated steel tip. CONDITION: fine to very fine. Bbl. retaining most of its original blue which has turned considerably brown overall and has some light striations and freckling. Action retains 80-90% original case hardening color which is thinning somewhat around trigger guard and bottom rear tang. Operating lever retains most of its original color. Blue is quite strong on breech block and hammer, approaching 90%. Stocks retain about 90% original varnish with some raised grain and scattered light marks. Checkering is lightly worn. Bore is very good, mostly shiny with some pitting toward breech end, scattered frosting overall. Action is fine. Set triggers are operable. Scope is good with about half its original blue, optically good but a bit hazy. (01-21588/MGM). ANTIQUE. $8,000-11,000.
