GREAT WESTERN FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER.SA REVOLVER.

Cal. 22 RF. S# 12048. Bbl. 5 1/2" with blade sight plus frame notched rear. Mfg. 1954-1964 to capitalize on popularity of SAA's after WW-II; near perfect Colt copy with a few of its earliest examples made using Colt frames. Sales enhanced by popularity of Westerns and Colt ceasing production of their iconic SAA Model P. This was also the impetus for Ruger making its SA revolvers. GW was based in CA and their products were used by screen stars John Wayne (westerns) and Don Knotts (Disney comedy). Fast draw competition was popular at this time and GW's were often used. Many finishes, barrel lengths, calibers (including GW's proprietary 357 Atomic caliber) and styles were available; 42% all blued, 71% had 5 1/2" barrels and 47% were 22 LR caliber. Most had faux stag grips as with this one. Weighty (2 pounds, 13 ounces) in 22 LR as it is all steel on large SAA frame. Blued finish with chrome plated hammer, trigger, crescent style ejector rod head and ejector housing. Firing pin assembly in frame was furnished to GW by Christy Gun Works (large supplier of specialized SAA parts). Highly collectable and only 22,238 produced. CONDITION: very good overall appearance with some light radial marks on cylinder along with slight turn line. Thinning at muzzle plus light mark in front of sight along with wear mark from ejector rod head. Some very faint high point thinning on frame. Near excellent chrome finish, bore and grips. (22-6062/NW). CURIO. $500-750.
