GROUP. This historic group belonged to Captain Garth D. Haddock USMC. Not only does it include his named Purple Heart in the original case with the award document, it also includes the helmet he was wearing when he received his head wound & his pilot's life vest. Captain Haddock's ship, L.S.T. 599, was lying at anchor at Kerama Retto of Okinawa when it was hit by a Kamikaze attack. Haddock received a significant head wound, as indicated by the helmet included in this lot. There is also a period photograph of the helmet with Haddock's life vest after the incident. The helmet is a front seam fixed bail helmet with appropriate liner & chinstrap. The lot further includes Captain Haddock's Officer's visor cap, his nylon flight suit, and an autographed photo of Haddock with Pappy Boyington. There is a large group of ephemera from WWII and documents from Haddock's service. Lastly, his PAL survival knife is included in this fascinating lot.
