GRIFFIN & HOWE SPRINGFIELD SPORTER 1903 BOLT

ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 721 (mfg. 1928). The 24" tapered rnd. Springfield bbl. has star gauge mark on muzzle. Bbl. has been fitted w/ banded on front ramp holding silver bead and sight protector. Top of bbl. is engraved “No. 721 Griffin & Howe Inc. NEW YORK". Cal. is engraved at left rear. Typical 03 Springfield action has had S# removed from receiver ring which has been stippled. An early type G & H side mt. base is attached and a Lyman 48 receiver sight has been added. Bolt body has been damascened and follower has been altered to allow bolt to close, otherwise action is as issued except for checkering on front part of floorplate. Relatively plain American walnut stock appears to have been altered from a type "C" stock w/ 2 anti split bolts through action area. Stock has been fitted w/ a later Pachmayr white line pad and horn grip cap. Grip and forend have been checkered in Griffin & Howe manner and this work is exceptionally well done. A horn forend tip has been added and rifle comes w/ a typical military leather sling w/ hook stamped "JAPAN" in detachable swivels. CONDITION: very fine. Metal parts retaining about 85% custom blue, silvered on sharp edges. Stock retains most of what appears to be its original oil finish. Bore is bright, sharp and shiny. Action is smooth. (22-3037/MGM). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
