Cal. 3006. S# 00025. Bbl. 27". The BAR was designed by John Browning in 1917 to fulfill a role for an automatic rifle in WWI. Early variants were made by Colt, Winchester & Marlin Rockwell. Approximately 85,000 were built prior to the Armistice though there were several configurations, the 1918A2 wasn"t adopted until just prior to WWII. It utilized a bipod, a short hinged shoulder support & a shorter forend than those prior. Like others before it, it feeds from a 20 rd. staggered, detachable box mag. & is chambered in 3006. It is a gas operated open bolt mechanism & this particular example is select fire instead of full auto only w/ a fast & slow setting. Parkerized finish on exposed metal surfaces. Wooden forend & composite rear stock. Left side nonreciprocating charging handle. Carry handle that swivels 90 degrees to the right. Hooded post front sight, rear peep sight adj. in elevation from 100-1500 yards. Mag. release is opposite the trigger inside the trigger guard. Leather sling. MAGS: 1-20 rd. CONDITION: finish coverage is complete w/ only light handling marks; wooden forend has a few mild impressions but overall very good condition. Black composite rear stock shows hairline crack where it meets receiver on left side continuing rearward less than 2". Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand.
