GROUP OF 10 FRAMED CIVIL WAR PAPER ITEMS.
1) Approx. 8" x 10" hand -colored albumin photograph of militiaman posed w/ 1840 cavalry saber, fancy headgear w/ Maltese Cross insignia w/ “5” in center. His belt buckle has “RHG” painted on it. CONDITION: appears very good to fine w/ staining to mat, not removed from frame. 2) State of Virginia (West Virginia) military commission signed by Gov. Pierpoint for Capt. Hoffman Atkinson, 1st Regiment of Virginia mounted volunteers, signed May 28, 1862. CONDITION: good to very good overall, printed vellum has 2 folds, good applied embossed seal, all discernible, light soiling. 3) $100 Confederate bond on pink paper showing soldier standing by tree (Criswell 120). CONDITION: very good & complete, though clipped coupons. Frame has broken glass. 4) Confederate Louisiana $1000 bond & 6 Confederate notes (Criswell #s, 41, 42, 44, 66, 67, and 69). The bond is signed by Gov. Thomas Moore in 1862. CONDITION: not examined data from, all appear very good. Frame has broken glass. 5) 32" x 23" Frame, escutcheon, printed & calligraphy, for William Moore, 4th New Jersey volunteer infantry. CONDITION: appears very good overall, not removed from frame. 6) 19" x 23" Frame, Currier & Ives “Soldier’s Memorial” of Company K, 126th Regiment New York volunteers, printed 1862. CONDITION: appears good overall w/ yellowing & staining, not removed from frame. 7) 20" x 24" Frame, printed “Soldier’s Memorial” of battery H, 1st Vermont Artillery, 1864 Major & Knapp lithographers, NY. CONDITION: appears overall good to very good w/ staining, yellowing & sm. cracks in upper left quadrant on edges. Not removed from frame 8) Large 25" x 21" oval frame w/ gesso decoration. Full standing enlisted infantryman w/ pink & watercolor enhancements to image. CONDITION: very good overall, not removed from frame. 9) 15" x 17" Gilded gesso frame w/ about 8" x 10" February 12, 1864 dated document from Chattanooga Tennessee mustering 3 soldiers of the 57th Indiana infantry into veteran volunteer corps. CONDITION: appears very good though not removed from frame. 10) 17" x 8" Document concerning “Leave of Absence” of Capt. Charles S Rice, 7th USCT, dated August 13, 1864. CONDITION: stains horizontally on 2 folds as can be seen in photo, otherwise appears very good. (02-14464/JS). $600-800.
