Marked on top of receiver ring "LOEWE BERLIN/1890" below a large "S". Left side receiver rail marked "Gew.88." Matching numbers on barrel and receiver; mismatched numbers on bolt handle. Rifle retains Mannlicher magazine follower. Receiver has not been cut on left side or had clip guides installed, the magazine well has a sheet metal clip marked "J" attached to the bottom. Includes a cleaning rod and reproduction leather sling in near excellent condition. Condition overall is very good, a coat of varnish was applied to the metal and wood on the rifle and has now turned to a golden color. Metal is good showing old pitting along the barrel wood line and scratches and darkening to the applied varnish. Right side buttstock has had brass tacks installed along with a carved box symbol. Wood has been sanded and the varnish applied over old handling marks and scratches, now showing a few new impressions and scratches to the finish. Bore has frosting and wear to the rifling, the safety lever is jammed in the fire position and needs to be adjusted to turn the lever; otherwise action is smooth. Est.: $300-$500. (Antique)
