WW1 Era German/Prussian Enlisted Pioneer Pickelhaube Spiked Helmet, with silver-colored trim. Black patent leather body with front and rear visors. Metal trim on this helmet is a silver finish for Pioneer troops. Front visor edge is covered with a silver-colored band. Prussian eagle front plate is attached with metal loops and leather strips, there are no extra holes in the front body. Chinstrap is leather with metal buckles. Enlisted cockades are the tri-color German, and black and white Prussian type. Silver-colored spike base is round with round rivets for attachment. Spike is silver colored with ventilation holes around the perimeter. Silver-colored backstrap band has a sliding ventilation cover at the top. Black thin leather lining has nine fingers. There are faint regimental markings stamped into the inside of the rear visor that read ''BA. XV 1916'' and ''J.R. 18?''. This type of helmet was used from the 1890's thru WW1. Condition is good with crazing overall. Outer surface of the leather body and visors with some minor losses to the finish in the rear and sides. Lining has cracks and edgewear and is missing the leather thong tie. Silver trim shows a front visor, and backstrap fitting has a dark blue/black/silver patina. Front plate, spike base, and spike have some thinning to the bright silver finish, but do not appear to have been cleaned in some time. Leather chinstrap appears to be a newer replacement and has an aged patina to the metal buckles and attachments. Cockades have wear to the painted finish. Est.: $500-$700.
