The bayonet has a excellent 12 3/4" long nickel plated steel fullered blade, Blade is nice and bright, of excellent quality, and still has over 95+% of the original nickel plating, with a slight area of scabbard wear to the tip. The blade ricasso is maker marked "E&F Horster Solingen" with the firms trademark with larger “H” letter. Inside this is the smaller “H” and “S” being pierced through the sword on the opposite side of the ricasso. there are small proof/ acceptance marks on the spine.
The leather buffer washer is missing. The bayonet grip scales are made of stag-horn with an aluminum police insignia firmly inset on one side. These are held between the upswept cross guard decorated with oak leaves, and the stylized eagle’s head pommel. Both cross guard and eagle’s head are well detailed and in very good condition, with almost all of the original nickel plating present. The scabbard is made of fine black leather, fitted with nickel plated brass, and is in very good condition. The leather does show a little age with all stitching intact It is held in the correct black leather frog with aluminum & steel rivets, which is in very good condition, stamped on the rear is "Gustav Sudbrock 1940". Wrapped around the frog is a police troddel knot with a fabric strap that is still in excellent condition. It has rows of red and silver bullion, and the green and silver end ball has a green insert. The rear crossguard and scabbard throat have the matching stamp of "S.D. VI. 355", S.D. is an abbreviation for Schutzpolizei-Dienst (Protection Police Service) ) was the uniformed municipal branch of Nazi Germany's Ordnungspolizei (Order Police). Tasked with standard law enforcement, they also actively participated in perpetrating the Holocaust by guarding ghettos, conducting roundups, and assisting in massacres across occupied Europe. The "VI" refers to the Wehrkreis VI (Military District VI) and its police organization:1. The IV. Polizei-Wachbataillon VI (Wehrkreis VI). During the expansion of police forces, reserve and active units were organized geographically by military districts. Wehrkreis VI covered the heavily populated industrial regions of North Rhine-Westphalia (headquartered in Münster). Police battalions (Polizei-Wachbataillone) were formed from local reservists and active Schutzpolizei personnel to maintain internal security, guard industrial assets, and conduct guard duties. A great correct, matching set in excellent condition.
