German WWII SS Candidate Sword
Maker marked Anton Wingen JR Soligen, as everyone is aware, the SS Officer’s Candidate Degen is hard to find sword. What differentiates this from the standard SS Officer’s Degen is the fact that it does not show a SS rune motif anywhere on the hilt/pommel. The hilt fittings reflect the stainless steel finish that remains in as found condition. The finish shows mild plating wear, grading 95%. The serrated edges exhibit minor wear. The teardrop quillion has the non-drilled decoration at the end. The “D” guard displays faint wear, with crisp edges throughout. The black ebony grip has thirteen sections showing faint wear/age and is the style that is tightly wrapped with nickel wire The ferrule is a great example and is also the stainless steel style with some hand work on the oak leaf seams. The shiny silver colored finished blade is approximately 33.5” long. The black factory paint exhibits wear and age in the form of chips, scrapes, and scratches The paint grades 98%. The upper and lower scabbard fittings are in place, being the stainless steel variety. The upper fitting is retained by two flush mounted, one screw. The scabbard throat is correctly not SS Kulturzeichen proofed. Also include is a silver sword knot with the SS symbol.
