Cal. 45. S# 57390. Bbl. 13". Designed just prior to WWII, the Reising SMG & its variations would be mfg. in numbers upwards of 100,000 by 1945. W/ a primary customer of the USMC they would be eventually found in both military & commercial applications & as far away as Soviet Russia. Being a little ahead of its time, it was mfg. to fire in a closed bolt configuration which would later become common because of its numerous advantages. Though it never received accolades for it, it had potential to be extremely accurate due to its advanced fire control group & locking bolt mechanism. While feeding devices are commonly available in multiple capacities, the Reising was unusual in that the mag. well determined the capacity, available in both 12 rd. & 20 rd. configuration. It was a select fire system, allowing the operator to choose between semi-auto & full-auto. Semi finned bbl. section approx. 2.75" in length w/ 14 fins & hardwood stock along w/ a slotted muzzle brake. Front sight is drift adj. blade & rear sight is an elevation adj. peep. Charging or cocking is accomplished utilizing a recessed handle below the bbl. Sling swivels attached to the stock front & rear. Metal buttplate. Markings on top of receiver include “MODEL 50-H&R REISING-CAL. 45 / HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON ARMS CO. / WORCESTER, MASS. U.S.A. Pat. Pending”. Safety/Selector markings include “SAFE - S.A. F.A.”. MAGS: 1-20 rd. CONDITION: original finish is complete & thorough on all exposed parts w/ normal thinning typical of storage wear. Bbl. & muzzle brake have a light patina staining, as does mag. well exterior. Stock appears free of any major defects only exhibiting few typical dents & impressions which are normal for firearms of this era. Mag. release thumb extension is missing. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. Shiny bore w/ good rifling. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT MG REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE.
