HENRY LATE MODEL BRASS FRAME RIFLE.

Cal. 44 HRF. S# 6724. The 24" octagonal barrel with integral magazine tube has 5" pivoting muzzle section for loading. Barrel is fitted with bottom portion of original sight, long range staff broken off and silver blade front in milled in pedestal base. Top of barrel is marked "HENRYS PATENT. OCT. 16, 1860" and "MANUFACTURED BY THE NEW HAVEN ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CT." Serial number is at rear of sight. Brass frame has iron lever with lock on tang and is unmarked. Walnut buttstock is fitted with cast brass crescent buttplate having pointed heel with trap in butt containing cleaning rod. An old leather sling is mounted in iron loop affixed to left side of butt with hook engaging loop screwed to left side of barrel. CONDITION: good. Barrel cleaned to pewter gray over considerable amount of brown oxidation and pitting, quite heavy on left side. There appears to be old saber cuts on top left of loading gate and midway down barrel. Action shows old cleaning and toning to dark gold. Has many light scratches and knocks, edges somewhat rounded. Stocks retain remnants of its original oil finish but shows considerable weathering, scratches, marks and chips most noticeable loss of wood at rear of comb in front of buttplate tang. Fair to good bore with strong rifling. lightly pitted throughout. Mechanically good. Sling is very dry, curled and cracked. (01-20912/MGM). ANTIQUE. $15,000-20,000.
