RANGE CREEDMORE TYPE TARGET RIFLE WITH UNUSUAL "RIGBY" FLATS. Cal. 44-90. S# 7493. Bbl. tapered round 34 1/4" has rear 2 3/4" area specially filed in "Rigby" style. Top flat is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS ILION N.Y." Front sight is of windage adjustable spirit-level type. There are no other sight cuts in bbl. Also there is no cal. marking. Serial number is on bottom under forend. Case hardened rolling block action has receiver area specially filed to align with and mimic flats on bbl. Top flat is marked with patent dates at center, the last being 1873, flanked on either end by "PATENTS". Patent dates do not apear on side of action, also no serial number is on action. Rolling block, hammer, trigger, pins and pin retainer are blued. Pistol grip buttstock of well figured American walnut measures 14 1/2" over checkered hard rubber buttplate. Rear comb is fitted with long range vernier type sight (numbered "19" on staff) adjustable for windage. Bottom of grip is of ogee shape and has hard rubber tip. Checkering is of fancy crenellated style and has losenge shaped drop points into pattern. Matching long forend has hard rubber tip. CONDITION: very fine, bbl. retaining approx. 90% original blue, thinning somewhat toward rear with a fair scattering of minor marks and some light freckling. Action retains 75-85% original case hardening color with areas of freckling, mostly on right side. Color on bottom fading to gray with freckling on tang. Breech block and hammer retain over 80% original blue with a bit less found on pins and retainer, as well as trigger. Stocks show light oil added over numerous light marks. Bore is bright and shiny with strong rifling throughout. Mechanically good. A very attractive and rare long range Remington.
