HIGH CONDITION US MODEL 1843 HALL-NORTH BREECH

LOADING PERCUSSION CARBINE WITH CARABINER AND SLING. Cal. 52 (smooth bore). NSN. Standard configuration. The 21" bbl. is secured by two bands. Rear of bbl. is stamped with inspector's initials "GWH". Area behind sight is unmarked. A saddle ring bar is on left side of action. Action has blued spring steel operating lever on right. Breech block is marked "US" "S. NORTH" "MIDLtn" "CONN" "1847". Iron mounted stock has inspector's initials "GWH" on left and "WAT" on right at rear of action. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: included is a correct period steel carabiner with belt. Swivel yoke is stamped "US" and with manufacturer "J. SHEPARD CHICOPEE MASS." Black belt has brass buckle and tip. CONDITION: very fine plus. Bbl., action and furniture retaining over 70% of their original brown finish; operating lever and spring most of their temper blue. Stock has only a few minor marks and one or two deeper marks in its original oil finish; most notably a fairly deep dig on left side of butt near toe and a sharp dent on right side under opening lever. Inspector's initials are sharp and clear. Bore is bright and shiny. Mechanically fine. Very fine carabiner. Metal still with its original bright polish. Belt still supple but with many marks and area of damage on one side. Brass is nicely toned. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of James B. Taylor. (01-20456/MGM). ANTIQUE. $3,000-5,000.
