HIGH GRADE CIVIL WAR SILVER GRIP HIGH RELIEF

OFFICER SWORD. 32” blade with fine etched patriotic panels & “SCHUYLER, HARTLEY, & GRAHAM, NEW YORK” logo on ricasso. The other ricasso has “Clauberg” maker’s mark who was well known for very fine fancy officer swords. This same pattern can be found in Schuyler, Harley, & Graham’s pattern book and John Thillman shows several examples of same higher grade with fluted leaf design silver grip; high relief decorated pommel with patriotic American flag shield; pierced guard with leaf and rococo scroll design. Scabbard is German silver with high relief oak leaf & acorn design. This sword is in “attic condition” with rich dark patina and would clean beautifully if wanted bringing out the gold washed highlights. CONDITION: very good to fine overall, blade is gray overall with staining light pitting, etched panels all crisp & discerned. Brass hilt & scabbard mounts have strong traces of gold under smooth chocolate/olive patinas, scabbard has small dent just above drag, fits well. (02-17663/JS). $2,500-3,500.
