BY AMERICAN ARMS CO. BOSTON. Cal. 10 Ga., 3". S# 1796. Bbl. 34" damascus, engraved “AMERICAN ARMS CO. BOSTON” on concave game rib. Unique & very strong G. Fox patent side swing action is fitted w/ front spring locks w/ tall serpentine rebounding hammers. Action is engraved w/ sprays of scroll w/ in geometric borders & a pointing pointer is on bottom. Locks also have sprays of well-cut scroll & oval game bird scenes at rears w/ quail on left & snipe on right. Maker’s name is in arched device on each lockplate. Top of action in front of unlocking slide is engraved w/ face of a fox. Triggerguard has a crouched setter on bow. Rnd. knob buttstock is of very nicely marbled European walnut & measures 14 1/16" over engraved steel buttplate. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Forend wood which is screwed to action has fancy checkering pattern w/ areas of closely & widely spaced diamonds. MEASUREMENTS: BORE DIA.: Left .800. Right .791. BORE RESTRICTIONS: Left .000 CYL. Right .012 IC. WALL THICKNESS: Left .027. Right .028. DAC: 2 1/8". DAH: 3 1/2". WEIGHT 9 lbs 2 oz. CONDITION: very good to fine, bbls. retaining a considerable amount of their original brown. Action & locks have a considerable amount of their original case hardening color, which is actually quite strong on lockplates approaching 60%. Buttstock retains most of its original French polish finish. Forend finish is considerably worn. Checkering w/ some wear on grip is considerably worn from handling on forend. Bores are fair to good w/ overall scattered light pitting & evidence of shallow dents in each bbl. about 15" from breech end. Action is tight. Locks are fine. Muzzle section of top rib is lifted for about the last 1 1/2". High grade examples of these extremely well made guns are seldom found. (01-20011/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,000-2,000.
