HIGH GRADE WALTER BOYT PARADE SADDLE.
An extremely scarce, vintage, handmade custom 15" Boyt parade saddle, bridle & breast collar. This saddle likely dates to the early 1940s & is quite similar to saddles used by the “singing cowboys” in scores of movies produced during the heyday of American westerns. It is known as the Model No. 05528. The saddle is constructed on a metal tree covered w/ beautiful deeply tooled black leather. The base of the saddle retains its full original fleece padding. The tapaderos are very attractive & quite substantial measuring nearly 18" long & 9" from heel to toe. They are decorated in the same manner as the saddle utilizing deeply cut floral patterns. The breast collar & bridle also share matching decorative motifs & the bridle has 3 rhinestone mounted conchos down the front. The diamond & rhombic shaped monel silver studs are frosted w/ diamond patterns & decorate all areas of the saddle. The saddle is marked on the front of the seat, “*****BOYT DES MOINES, IOWA”. The Walter Boyt Saddlery Company was opened in 1901 in Des Moines, Iowa. They quickly became one of the premier manufacturers of saddlery & harnesses in the country. They produced saddles for the US military in both WWI & WWII. CONDITION: the saddle, bridle & breast collar generally show light overall wear. The fleece is a bit dark & a little matted but remains complete & intact. There are 2 monel silver diamonds & 1 concho missing. Overall the saddle remains quite solid & could easily be ridden today. (02-15035/BF). $750-1,500.
