Bbls. 27 3/4" w/ slightly raised flat rib fitted w/ folding ladder type rear sight graduated to 1,000yds. & express rear sight which is scroll engraved & has 2 folding leaves. Rear portion of rib engraved "S. W. Silver & Co. Cornhill London" (1869-1889, yes, the people that patented the recoil pad). Bbl. flats stamped w/ London black powder proofs for 25 bore. Case hardened Jones underlever rnd. bodied action fitted w/ back spring peninsula locks w/ rnd. bodied non rebounding serpentine hammers. Action & locks unengraved, even w/ a maker's name. Trigger guard is blued. Lightly streaked & nicely fiddle figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 5/8" over steel buttplate. Classic point pattern checkering is at grip & a sling eye matching that affixed to bbl. is on toeline. Matching splinter forend w/ filed steel tip attaches to bbls. w/ captive side bolt through oval steel escutcheons. CONDITION: exceptionally fine, original. Bbls. retaining over 90% blue w/ some scattered freckling & splotches of finish loss from some errant liquid. Action & locks retain approx. 95% original case hardening color w/ some rust discoloration mostly on tails of lockplates & top tang. Stocks retain nearly all of their hand rubbed oil finish w/ a few minor marks. Buttplate is cleaned to silver & has some rust on edges w/ probable associated pitting. Checkering is lightly worn. There is a sm. area on forend that has checkering recut to remove a dent. Rear express sight a probable replacement or addition. Bores are very fine, bright & shiny w/ sharp rifling throughout. Action is tight. Bbls. are on face. Locks are crisp. Muzzle shows some gaps where solder was not replaced after regulation. (01-19912/MGM). ANTIQUE. $4,000-8,000.
