BY J. FISHER OF NEW YORK. Cal. 12 Bore. NSN. John Fisher worked in New York City between 1841 & 1850 as evidenced by this high quality gun, he was a very accomplished maker. 29" High quality Damascus bbls. are engraved "J. Fisher New. York." on broad concave rib. Bbl. flats are stamped w/ London black powder proofs. An ebony ramrod w/ steel tip & brass tail (worm under tail) is held by 2 plain pipes. Breech iron w/ integral fences is casehardened & very nicely scroll engraved. Front spring locks w/ flat faced serpentine hammers are engraved w/ sprays of well cut shaded scroll at tails & nicely detailed game scenes toward front; dogs are pointing birds on both sides. "J. FISHER" is at the front of each lockplate. Lockplates are held in stock by usual screw as well as secondary screws at tails into wood, a seldom seen feature. Stock appears to be of American walnut measuring 14" over blued steel buttplate w/ long scroll engraved top tang. Widely spaced point pattern checkering is at grip. Trigger plate has stylized pineapple finial & blued trigger guard has dog scene on bow. Bbls. attach to stock w/ side bolt through oval steel escutcheons. Bore diameters: left - .739, .000 (cyl), right - .736, .000 (cyl). Wall thickness: left - .032, right - .038. DAC: 1 1/2". DAH: 2 5/16". Cast is neutral. LOP: 14". WEIGHT: 8 lbs. 1 oz. CONDITION: bbls. retain 60-70% original brown w/ fine definition to pattern w/ some scattered staining done by cleaning. Locks & other casehardened parts retain over 85% of their color. Buttplate & trigger guard retain most of their original blue. Stock has nearly all of its original oil finish w/ a number of scratches & marks. Bores are shiny w/ some frosting toward muzzles. Locks are crisp. Rear portion of rib has lifted for about 3". An attractive American gun. (01-17179/MGM44). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
