TRAP GUN GUSTLOFF WERKE (SIMSON) OF SUHL. Cal. 12 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 29016. The 34" tapered rnd. bbl. is fitted with raised ventilated rib holding 2 white beads. Milled out portion of rib is engraved "Simson & Co. Suhl Waffenfabriken". There are 1" triangles of scroll engraving at breech end. Bottom of bbl. is stamped with December 1925 Imperial German Nitro proofs. Simson mountains logo and serial number on left side of rear lump. Case hardened double Kirsten ogee backed blitz action does not have safety. Action is engraved with near full coverage well cut varying size scroll with some scroll and geometric borders. Triggerplate is marked "G" "GUSTLOFF-WERKE" "Waffenwerke Suhl". Blued trigger guard and top lever are also scroll engraved. Steel capped pistol grip buttstock of somewhat burl figured European walnut measures 14 1/4" over ribbed horn buttplate. Semi-fancy pattern, closely spaced checkering is at grip. A sling loop is on toeline. Matching beavertail ejector forend has Deeley release. MEASUREMENTS: BBL: Bore Diameter: .729". Restriction: .036" (FULL). Min. Wall Thickness: .060". STOCK: DAH: 1 1/2". DAC: 1 7/16". LOP: 14 1/4". CAST: neutral. WEIGHT: 8 lb. 6 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: comes with black plastic case. CONDITION: exceptionally fine. Bbl. retaining over 95% original blue with some scattered speckling. Lumps and breech face of bbl. still retain original damascening. Action retains about 90% original case hardening color, silvered on beads and edges of fences. Stocks retain nearly all of their original hand rubbed oil finish with some scatterd marks, mostly on left side of butt. Checkering shows some compressions and has slightly darkened. Bore is considerably pitted and has been polished. Action is tight. Ejector works intermittently. A very high quality gun which has had no alteration of stock, which is unusual for a trap gun.
