HIGH QUALITY CASED PAIR OF FLINTLOCK DUELING/
OFFICER'S PISTOLS BY WOGDON & BARTON, LONDON. Cal. 28 Bore (approx. 54 cal.) NSN. Pistols are 15" overall w/ 10" oct. slightly swamped bbls. w/ inset silver front sights & fixed rear sights. Bbls. are browned, locks case hardened & other iron mountings are blued. Bottom flats of bbls. have London proofs. Patent breeches are engraved & inlaid w/ platinum bands & have gold lined touch holes. Chambered lockplates w/ beveled lined edges are engraved forward of cock "WOGDON / & / BARTON" in script. Beveled serpentine cocks have matching lined border to lock & are fitted w/ back sliding safeties. Walnut stocks; each have 2 silver keyway escutcheons. Iron furniture is well fitted, trigger bows are engraved w/ panoplies of arms & trigger guard finials are engraved terminating in pineapples. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: mahogany case w/ dbl. hook closure & central brass faced lock. Lid is fitted w/ folding brass handle. Case is lined in green baize w/ several accessories including brass mounted rosewood cleaning rod, brass bag flask, screwdriver/vent cleanout combination tool, iron scissor mold & brass powder measure. CONDITION: very good overall. Guns appear complete & original w/ exception of replaced ramrod on 1 gun. Bbls. show traces of brown finish externally. Strong brown patina where protected under bbls., scattered pitting & brown overall. Locks show traces of case color & are smooth dark gray overall. Traces of bright blue are found on trigger guards w/ balance dark patina. Stocks are sound w/ sharp edges, scattered dings & dents, retaining much of their original oiled finish. Bores are fine, one showing light frosting. Locks are fine & functional. Casing is sound w/ old cracks in base, surface w/ staining. Lining soiled & worn w/ staining & sm. reductions. (01-17288/JS).
