KIPLAUF. Cal. 815x46R. S# 334. Bbl. 23 1/2" tapered oct., fitted w/ elevation adj. U notch rear sight, dovetailed through matted top flat. Silver bead front is dovetailed into the end of raised portion of bbl. at muzzle. Rnd. body top lever action is w/ right hand back spring lock w/ sm. serpentine rebounding hammer. Flip up peep sight is in top tang. Bbl. flats stamped w/ Ferlach nitro proofs dated 1929. Dbl. set triggers fitted. Action engraved w/ very nicely detailed semi relief acanthus & scroll. This scroll surrounds well done game scenes w/ roaring stag on left side of action & roebuck on right. Lockplate portrays a chamois bounding through alpine terrain. An auerhahn is on trigger guard bow. Figured European walnut horn capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14" over steel buttplate w/ trap & w/ place for 3 cartridges. Stock also features right hand shadow line cheekpiece, point pattern checkering & sling loop matching that on bbl. Matching sm. forend. as forward pivoting lever release. CONDITION: bbl. w/ traces of original blue is mostly dark gray. Action & lock are nearly all dark gray to pewter w/ some scattered light pitting, mostly on trigger guard bow. Stock retains some of what appears to be original finish w/ numerous marks, dents & wear. There are 2, possibly original, inlet wood repairs to grain check near heel. Forend has some loss of wood on left bbl. channel. Checkering considerably worn. Good bore, mostly shiny, a bit dark in grooves. Rifling strong throughout. Action is tight. Lock is good. Triggers work. Replacement firing pin is a bit too long & occasionally jams. PROVENANCE: From the JM Davis Museum Collection. (21-2735/MGM). CURIO. $800-1,200.
