PERCUSSION SAW HANDLE GERMAN SILVER FRAME HOLSTER / DUELING PISTOLS WITH CASE AND ACCESSORIES. Cal. 50. NSN. This attractive pair of pistols are not maker marked. The 8 5/8" octagon bbls. transition to 16 sides at muzzles. Top flats are scroll engraved, and 3 gold bands are around engraved breech plugs with vented blowouts. Bottoms of bbls. are stamped with Birmingham black powder proofs. Bridled steel ramrods mount through plain German silver pipes on under ribs. Cast German silver stocks with saw handles and flared grips, are engraved w/ about 40% coverage large acanthus scroll. Back spring percussion locks, with flat faced steel percussion hammers have scroll engraved lockplates made of German silver. Triggers are nicely filed blued steel and German silver trigger guards have finger spurs. There are traps for percussion caps in bottoms of butts. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: pistols are housed in a mahogany cutlery type case with flush brass handle with key lock closure. Case is lined in green cloth. Pistols fit well in the case along with a fine, silver plated, bottle shaped combination powder, ball, and cap, flask decorated with raised oak leaves, acorns and strap work. Also in the case are a square unmarked oil bottle and some lead balls in one of two covered compartments with brass knobs. CONDITION: exceptionally fine, bbls. retaining over 80% original blue; thinning and browning on high edges. Metal stocks are also excellent with some scattered light scratches and marks. Triggers retain a considerable amount of their original blue. Bores are good with some scattered pitting. Case retains most of an oil refinish with some scratches and cracks. Interior cloth is very fine. Accessories are fine. Provenance, consignor states: pistols were exhibited at the Fowler Museum, Los Angeles. (01-20581/MGM). ANTIQUE. $8,000-12,000.
