GAME GUN BY SIMSON OF SUHL. Cal. 12 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 199927. Bbls. 28 1/4" fitted w/ raised matted concave rib marked "SIMSON, SUHL (THURINGEN)" on milled out portion. Tops of bbls. are stamped w/ steel type & there are 1" triangles of scroll engraving at breech ends. Bbl. flats are stamped w/ June 1959 East German Nitro proofs for 2 3/4" chambers. A sling loop is screwed to bottom rib. French gray boxlock action w/ ornamental sideplates features automatic safety, cross bolt 3rd fastener, side clips, pin type cocking indicators & dbl. triggers. Action is engraved w/ about 70% coverage nicely cut, varying size scroll in line & geometric borders which surrounds scene of scampering rabbit on trigger plate. Sideplates are semi relief engraved w/ vignettes of game in appropriate settings. A trio of ducks take flight into a marsh on left side & a setter points a pair of pheasant at edge of woodland on right. Blued trigger guard is engraved w/ matching scroll. Somewhat figured European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14 1/2" over hard rubber buttplate embossed w/ Simson 3 mountain peak logo. Stock features sm. shadowline right hand cheekpiece & well cut point pattern checkering at grip. A sling loop matching that on bbl. is on toeline. Matching splinter ejector forend w/ slightly schnabled tip has Deely release. MEASUREMENTS: Bore diameter: R .725", L .722", Restriction: R .028" (MOD), L .037" (FULL), Min. Bbls. retaining over 80% original blue w/ some scattered light marks & silvering on sharp edges. Action retains about 90% original French gray somewhat darkened due to added oil, lightly worn to bright silver on bottom from normal carrying wear. Stocks retain over 90% of their original oil finish w/ a considerable number of light knocks & scratches associated w/ hunting in a brushy area. Checkering lightly worn w/ some areas of considerable wear on forend. Fine, shiny bores. Action is tight. Ejectors strong & in time. (21-1032/MGM). CURIO. $3,000-4,500.
