KREIGHOFF. Cal. 16 Ga., 2 3/4" x 16 Ga., 2 3/4" / 9.3x72R. S# 7179. Guns & Rifles by this firm are known for their extremely high overall quality. 26 1/2" Bbls. are gold inlaid "Sempert & Kreighoff, Suhl"on full length matted rib w/ flip up U notch rear & silver bead front sights. Claw scope bases are also fitted. Rear portion of bbls. are marked w/ "Whittener" steel logos. Breech ends have 2 gold bands. Bbl. flats stamped w/ pre WWI German Nitro proofs & w/ later 2 3/4" stamps. Rifle bbl. stamped w/ information for 9.3x72R cartridge (measured groove diameter .352"). Case hardened sidelock action has lever type safety on left lock & rifle cocking lever on left side. Rifle bbl. is fired by front trigger. Action also features hidden crossbolt third fastener, side clips, raised triangle tumbler end, cocking indicators & dbl. triggers (front set). Action engraved w/ about 50% coverage nicely cut scroll. Fences are semi relief engraved in attractive shell motif. Lockplates w/ scroll at front have gold wire borders & scroll at rear to offset nicely detailed game scenes. On left lockplate, a roe buck confronts yapping sm. dog at edge of open meadow. A stag & hind are on right plate in alpine meadow. Trigger guard bow is emblazoned w/ gold wire outlined monogram relief gold inlaid "SC". A horn extension continues into grip. Horn capped pistol grip buttstock w/ raised Monte Carlo type comb measures 14 1/2" over ribbed horn buttplate. Stock features right hand shadow line cheekpiece & cartridge trap on toeline w/ push button release, which has space for 3 rifle cartridges. Spring loaded cover has gold wire inlay surrounding oval vignette depicting a pair of doves. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Right side of butt has later hand carving depicting head of a roaring stag. A roe buck is on left side behind cheekpiece. Matching splinter forend w/ Deeley release has later carving of head of St. Hubertus's stag w/ inlet bone cross. MEASUREMENTS: BARRELS: bore diameter: right .665", left .667". Restriction: right .24" (Mod.), left .030" (Full). Min. Wall Thickness: right .023", left .028", STOCKS: LOP: 14 1/2". DAC: 1 1/2"+. DAMC: 2". DAH: 3 3/16". Cast about 1/2" off. WEIGHT: 7 lbs., 5 oz. CONDITION: good to very good. Bbls. retaining a fair amount of what appears to be original blue w/ considerable browning & thinning. Action & locks retain about 30% original case hardening color, balance silver to gray w/ some freckling. There is a considerable amount of blue on trigger guard & rifle cocking lever. Stocks have some original finish, but have been skinned down & not refinished after being carved. Checkering considerably worn & has not been recut. Checkering on forend is almost worn smooth w/ some recutting around new carving. Bores are fine w/ a hint of frosting & a couple of minor little dings in shotgun bbls. Rifle bore shiny w/ some light pitting toward breech end. Action is tight. Set trigger works. (21-2540/MGM). CURIO. $1,200-1,800.
