SHOTGUN WITH UNUSUAL LOCKING MECHANISM. Cal. 12 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 61413. Made in 1942, this sidelock extractor is an interesting early example of J.B. Arrizabalaga 3 bite crossbolt locking system. The 28” Cockerill fluid steel bbls. w/ filed concave rib, remnants of front brass bead still remain. Tops of bbls. engraved “DE HIJOS DE J.B. ARRIZABALAGA” & top of left bbl. "Eibar". Breech ends of bbls. w/ crossbolt locking mechanism w/ bbl. side clip which is lightly scroll engraved. Wide checkered splinter forearm w/ Anson type push button release & lightly engraved pin head & silver colored knights head w/ family crest at center. Bottom rib w/ sling. 7 Pin sidelock action is nicely scroll engraved w/ gold inlaid cocking indicators. Bbl. fences nicely sculpted in raised leaf pattern. Blued finished scroll engraved top lever w/ gold inlaid family crest. Top tang w/ border engraving & light scroll w/ gold inlaid ”S” in front of safety slide. Gun made w/ dbl. triggers, extractor, & automatic safety. Straight grip buttstock checkered in point pattern w/ lightly scroll engraved long tang trigger guard. Sling swivel near toe terminates w/ lined horn buttplate w/ engraved screws. Measurements: Right: .727", choke: .028"(mod.). Left: .727", choke: .043(full). Minimum wall thickness: Right: .028", left: .029". DAC: 1 1/2". DAH: 2 1/2". LOP: 14". Weight: 6 lbs., 14 oz. CONDITION: good. Bbls retain nearly all of an older restored finish w/ a few areas of light beginning salt & pepper pinprick pitting & a couple of very minor dents on right tube. Bores w/ scattered light pitting. Forearm checkering is about 70% present w/ an old sliver of wood missing at front left side. Action has toned to grey, engraving still fine. Buttstock w/ about 50% of the checkering still present retains most of an older hand rubbed finish after a light sanding. Gun is a touch loose at the hinge but still on face. Mechanics are fine. Very interesting gun w/ an intriguing locking mechanism and the only one of its type this cataloger has observed. (22-1158/JSL). CURIO. $2,500-3,500.
